2010 TACS Program Dates
 |
Registration for our 2010 programs will be open by December, 2009. |
 |
We strive to
keep our programs affordable, due greatly to a tremendous amount
of volunteers and donations. Parents are welcome to get involved,
and we can always use extra help -- no experience necessary! Informal
board meetings Friday noon at Scott's Harbor Grill, Traverse City.
Monthly Board Meetings are held the third Monday of each month at
the Grand Traverse Yacht Club.
We are fully
insured and place great importance on safety and proper instruction
on the water. Sailors are required to wear proper foot gear and
a Coast Guard approved flotation vest at all times. US Sailing, the national governing body of the sport of sailing,
certifies all of our instructors. |
Youth Camps
Ages 8-17
can learn the art of sailing! Designed to teach sailing basics and beyond.
When registering, please indicate experience level. Instruction
is customized to the student! Beginning students each have their own Optimist
Dinghy, sized just for young sailors: 8 foot long wooden sailing prams
that are lightweight, safe and stable. These craft are so easy to operate
that they are the world-wide choice of junior sailing programs. This program
builds self-esteem and personal confidence in a fun-filled stimulating
environment.
Half day
sessions are recommended for children under the age of 12. Full day classes are hard for the younger students.
AM Half Day (9am
- noon) PM Half Day (1-4pm) or Full Day (9-4pm)
Costs are
$320 for the two week full day or $170 for the two week half day camps or $170 for the one week full day camp (Holiday Week Camp)

Advanced Sailing Camps
TACS offers two full day camps focused on preparing sailors to compete at a higher level. These camps will focus on further refining racing skills such as tactics, boat handling, sail trim & knowledge of the racing rules using singlehanded boats (lasers), 2 person boats (JY 15's & Club 420's) and crewed 3 person boats (Interlakes). We recomend that all sailors take the two week advanced sailing course first.

Adaptive Sailing Program
Adaptive sailing is a program that is inclusive to individuals with all abilities, including but not limited to those with physicals and/or cognitive delays, senior citizens, veterans, and those with critical health concerns. Easy access is the key to providing services for all, and the Cornwell Sailing Center provides barrier free docks, lifts and equipment. Community funding and collaboration has been necessary to provide the boats, instruction, and volunteers to run a safe and fun program.
